Children of the Moon

2019 | 17 minutes | USA | Interzone Pictures / Small Rice Field Productions

Directed by Tymon Brown and Will Klein / Edited by Will Klein / Cinematography by Tymon Brown and Will Klein / Produced by Mac Smullen

Children of the Moon is a documentary short about the consequences of leaving an all-consuming way of life, and the lasting effects of a radical paradigm shift on one's relationship to themselves and others. Three people born and raised in the Unification Church (a cult formed in Korea in the 1950s), all having left the Church in their adulthood, examine their experiences within and without the cult that for them defined the entire universe. Intimate interviews combine with impressionistic home movie footage to explore the realignment of faith and values faced after leaving the Church, and the effects of that process that still linger in their current lives.
